Napa Teutonia Lodge #19 Celebrates Its 100th Anniversary

Napa, CA

We met just before noon at the Napa Elks Lodge and were entertained by the Deutscher Musikverein of San Francisco. It was wonderful to listen to the great music they played for us.

President Rosi Darm then announced that they will play the German and then the American National Anthems and everyone was welcome to sing along.

The tables were decorated beautifully, graced by a German and an American flag. President Rosi then introduced our Master of Ceremony, Monika Nelson. Monika introduced our special and honored guests who included the Deputy General Consul Bernhard Abels and his lovely wife, Napa's Mayor Jill Techel and a delegation from the Herman Son's Grand Lodge. Mayor Jill Techel proclaimed the month of January 2012 to the Teutonia Lodge #19 of Napa and gave a beautiful certificate to President Rosi Darm.

We also had Chantal Lovett present from the Napa Valley Register and Edna Baehre who is the president of the Napa Valley College. Larry Nelson gave the invocation followed by lunch consisting of a Greek salad and either Chicken Cordon Bleu or Salmon over rice pilaf and asparagus. Everyone enjoyed the food plus the Chardonnay and Merlot from Monticello Vineyards.

Next Monika introduced Annelie Myall who was our president for over 30 years and Almut Haeckl, our secretary for 23 years. Those are very impressive years of service and commitment to the Teutonia Lodge #19.

Peter Haeckl showed us the first minutes of the Hermann Son's meeting in 1890. In 1978 the Women's Loge of Napa and the Men's Loge of Napa merged and became Teutonia Lodge #19.

Monika then introduced Andy Christiansen the President of the Grand Loge who proposed a toast with Schramberg's Champagne to our Loge and its members that it may continue for many years to come.

This was followed by another segment of the Musikverein Band, and many of our guests danced to their hearts desire. It was a very memorable and special afternoon not soon forgotten.
